- NASA, in conjunction with the FAA, has created a safety reporting system intended to enhance safety by encouraging pilots, air traffic controllers, etc. to report incidents with some degree of immunity. The intent is to analyze factors that lead to airspace incursions, inadvertent errors, incidents, etc. and use the reported information to determine ways to reduce future errors. It is important to note that the pilot files the report within ten days of the incident/violation. See extract “The person proves that, within 10 days after the violation, or date when the person became aware or should have been aware of the violation, he or she completed and delivered or mailed a written report of the incident or occurrence to NASA.” Use this link to get you to the NASA Safety Reporting System website:
